“It used to be ice cream, now it’s iPhone”, Omawumi speaks on love

Nigerian singer Omawumi says she believes romantic relationships have always been transactional, but the expectations have changed over time. She made the remarks in an interview with Pulse.

Omawumi said that while love has always involved give and take, it was less expensive in the past when simple gifts could impress a partner. She noted that modern relationships now require more costly gestures due to inflation and changing social expectations.

The singer added that society often focuses on what men spend in relationships while ignoring what women also contribute. She said individuals who complain about transactional relationships may also be influenced by the choices they make in partners.
