Human rights lawyer Femi Falana said on Wednesday that displaying the flag of any country is not an offence under Nigerian law. He noted that many hotels and major churches in Nigeria often hoist foreign flags, including those of Israel and other nations, without legal repercussions.
Mr Falana, who made these remarks during a programme monitored by Radio Now’s Newsdesk, was addressing the recent legal proceedings against minors involved in the #EndBadGovernance protests. Some of these minors had been arrested in August for allegedly raising Russian flags in northern states and were charged with treason before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Following public criticism of the arraignment, the administration of President Bola Tinubu dropped the charges, citing humanitarian reasons for the decision.
