Kidnapping On The Rise In Nigeria’s Federal Capital City, Abuja

In 2004, Mexico was described as the Kidnap capital of the world after recording 3000 kidnappings in a single year. 20 years later, Nigeria has recorded more kidnap cases than the former kidnap capital of the world. 

The year 2023 saw Nigeria record 3,620 kidnap cases, with 15 of these cases recorded in Abuja- Nigeria’s capital city and seat of the President, and home to every law enforcement organisation in the country.

These numbers which point to a serious problem with crime and criminality were made more glaring by the murder of kidnapped victims whose parents failed to produce a ransom within a deadline.
