Athletes representing Kogi State have staged a protest in Ogun State, accusing the State Ministry of Sports of withholding their allowances. The protest, held at Babcock University, saw athletes holding placards calling for the resignation of Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Monday Anyebe.
Vivian Eberechukwu, who represented Kogi in table tennis, told reporters that athletes were promised ₦70,000 each but were only paid ₦30,000. She also criticised the state for failing to provide proper sports kits and equipment, calling the treatment “disrespectful and demoralising”.

Eberechukwu, who hails from Enugu State but represented Kogi, called on the state government to sack the commissioner and establish a dedicated Sports Commission to reduce bureaucratic delays in athlete welfare.
The protest is the latest in a series of complaints against state-level sports administrations across Nigeria, with athletes frequently citing poor funding, lack of transparency, and delayed payments.
