Labour Gives 30-Day Grace Following 15-Point Agreement With FG

After hours of deliberations between organised labour and the Federal Government, the unions have decided to suspend the planned nationwide indefinite strike for another 30 days.

The decision is contained in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress as well as the Ministers of Labour and Employment; and the Minister of Information and National Orientation.

The 3-page MoU outlines a 15-point agreement between both sides including a pledge that the Federal Government will grant a wage award of N35,000 to all federal workers from the month of September until a new national minimum wage is signed into law.

The agreement also covers a range of other matters, including dialogue with states to extend wage awards to state workers; increased subsidisation of fertiliser; tax incentives for the private sector and more.
