The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has issued a stark warning that the state could face devastating flooding if urgent action is not taken to address its environmental vulnerabilities.
Speaking at a Strategic Stakeholders Meeting in Ikeja on Wednesday, He highlighted the global impact of climate change, citing examples from the UK and New York City, where residents are already relocating to safer areas due to rising sea levels.
He emphasised that Lagos faces significant challenges, particularly poor land management and inadequate enforcement of physical planning laws, which have exacerbated the state’s vulnerability.
