Lagos Governor Suspends Aide as 2025 Budget Scales Second Reading

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, over a controversial post on his personal X account.

According to a statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the suspension follows Ajetunmobi’s “misrepresentation of facts” regarding the 2020 #EndSARS protests. In the now-deleted post, Ajetunmobi alleged that individuals who burnt a media outlet during the protests were “hunted down and executed.”

Meanwhile, the Lagos State House of Assembly has commenced deliberations on the 2025 appropriation bill of N3.005 trillion presented by Governor Sanwo-Olu last week. Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, referred the budget proposal to a joint committee on appropriation and finance for review, with a directive to report back in one month.

While acknowledging the importance of loans for development, Olumoh stressed the need for sustainable and pragmatic strategies to fund the budget without excessive reliance on borrowing.
