The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Tijani Fatai, has confirmed that the command has commenced an investigation into the delivery of a parcel containing bullets to the residence of Olusegun Alebiosu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank Nigeria.
During a press briefing on Tuesday, CP Fatai said Alebiosu reported to the police on May 7, 2026, that his security guard had received a parcel at his Lagos residence, and when opened, two rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition were found inside, arousing a lot of suspicion. He said the matter is still under investigation and needs to be more thorough, adding that no suspect is currently in custody, although the MD has mentioned some people he suspects of being behind it. The police commissioner made the disclosure when asked to confirm reports about the parcel.
Fatai also said operatives of the command arrested several crime suspects and recovered items, including 14 firearms, four live cartridges, 51 mobile phones, one motorcycle, 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms, and vandalised electrical cables.
The police commissioner assured that the command is working diligently to unravel the circumstances surrounding the delivery of the ammunition to the bank CEO’s residence. He said the investigation is being handled with utmost seriousness, given the sensitivity of the case. The police have not disclosed any motive for the delivery of the ammunition.
