The Lagos State Government says it will complete a new Transfer Loading Station at the Olusosun dumpsite before the end of 2026 to move about 2,500 metric tonnes of waste daily to the Material Recovery Site in Ikorodu. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced this on Sunday during an inspection of the facility after the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
Wahab said the project, being executed by concessionaire Messrs Zoomlion, forms part of the state’s waste-to-wealth programme and broader landfill management reforms. He added that the company will also rehabilitate the 1.2-kilometre access road to the dumpsite and increase work on the site to meet the completion deadline.
The commissioner said Lagos is moving away from its decades-old linear waste disposal system, describing waste as a resource that can be converted into energy and other valuable products. He also announced plans to deploy more compactors, including electric and tricycle compactors, to improve waste collection in densely populated communities.
