LASIEC Vows Free, Fair, Credible Polls Across Lagos on Saturday

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, has assured its readiness in using modern accreditation devices to conduct free, fair and credible chairmen and councillors elections across 37 LCDA on Saturday, 12 July 2025.

Speaking at a press briefing organised by the commission on Thursday, 10, in Lagos, the commission’s chairman, Honourable Justice Bola Okikiolu Ighile retired, said the commission has put all the necessary measures in place and partnered with relevant organisations to ensure a seamless process in Saturday’s election.

She stated that the commission has registered 7,600,195 voters, and 6,215,970 Permanent Voters Cards have been collected so far and sensitive and non-sensitive materials have been stored across three geopolitical zones in the state to ensure the timely distribution of the materials.

The commission’s chairman further disclosed that all the Electoral Officers as well as the Ad-hoc Staff have received rigorous training for the smooth conduct of the election, noting that 19 political parties have been accredited so far, while only 15 political parties are going to participate in the election on Saturday, 12 July 2025.

Regarding the issue of ballot box snatching, Justice Bola said the election in the affected polling units will be cancelled and the commission would organise a by-election.

The chairman emphasised that appropriate plans have also been put in place to assist people living with disability PLWDs to ensure they cast their vote accordingly during the election and assured the residents of the state that there will be maximum security in all the 13,325 polling units across the state.

She therefore urged the residents to come out en masse to participate in the election, saying that the polling units will be opened at exactly 8:00 AM and close at exactly 3:00 PM, and called on the voters to refrain from selling their votes as it’s the only effective tool they have to express their mandates.
