The Youth Party’s Chairmanship candidate for Eti-Osa, Ayodele Adio, has faulted the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission’s decision to include the state’s 37 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, in next year’s local government polls.
Mr Adio maintains that the LCDAs are not recognised by the 1999 Constitution, and therefore cannot be legitimate units for elections. The polls are scheduled for July 2025, but controversy is growing over LASIEC’s inclusion of the LCDAs in its preparations.

In a strongly worded statement, Mr Adio accused elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress of attempting to subvert constitutional norms by pushing ahead with elections in these areas.
He noted that a bill currently before the National Assembly seeking to amend the Constitution is itself proof that the LCDAs lack legal status.
Mr Adio added that even President Tinubu, who created the LCDAs as governor, only allocates federal funds to the 20 recognised LGAs.
