My Record Remains Clear and Documented, Atiku Responds to Tinubu Over Privatisation Claims

A former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, has responded to criticism from President Bola Tinubu over his role in Nigeria’s privatisation programme, saying his record remains clear and documented.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Phrank Shaibu, Mr Abubakar rejected the president’s remarks, which accused him of unsuccessfully handling past privatisation efforts and attempting to ‘privatise’ the African Democratic Congress.

The former vice-president said he had long supported the privatisation of state-owned enterprises, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and refineries, adding that similar policies are now being pursued by the current administration.

He also raised concerns about economic conditions, saying rising inflation and declining purchasing power are affecting households and businesses, while maintaining that his public service record is defensible.
