Nanloong Daniel Elected Plateau Speaker Amid Leadership Crisis

Hon. Nanloong Daniel has been elected Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, following the resignation of Hon. Gabriel Dewan.

The decision came during an emergency sitting on Wednesday at the Assembly’s temporary complex in Jos. Daniel, who represents Mikang and previously served as majority leader, was unanimously endorsed by fellow lawmakers.

The shake-up follows weeks of political tension triggered by the removal of PDP legislators and disputes over the Assembly’s leadership.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang held a closed-door meeting with Dewan and lawmakers ahead of the transition, aimed at calming the crisis.

Deputy Speaker Hon. Gwotta Ajang presided over the session. Dewan, the only YPP member in the House, stepped down as part of broader efforts to restore stability.
