NCDC Confirms No Widespread COVID-19 Transmission in Cross River

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention says there is no evidence of widespread COVID-19 transmission in Cross River State. This follows earlier reports by the state government confirming a new case of the virus within its borders.

Health authorities in Cross River identified the index case as a 53-year-old Chinese national working with Lafarge in Akamkpa Local Government Area. The individual reportedly arrived in Nigeria on March 17 and later developed symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

The NCDC confirmed that the case has been isolated and is receiving treatment in line with national guidelines. Officials say the patient is in stable condition and responding well to care, while coordinated response measures have been activated to contain any potential spread.
