The Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) says Nigeria has taken its pride of place as the leading nation in data protection across Africa.
Speaking at the Nigeria-Netherlands Economic Consultation in Abuja, the NDPB National Commissioner, Mr. Vincent Olatunji, says with the functions of the NDPB, significant contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
A statement issued by Mr. Itunu Dosekun, the bureau’s Head of Media Unit, quotes the NDPB National Commissioner, Mr. Vincent Olatunji, saying with the functions of the NDPB, there had been significant contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The NDPB National Commissioner, who was speaking at the Nigeria-Netherlands Economic Consultation in Abuja, also said EU countries have gone ahead with Data Protection but Nigeria gained the lead in Africa with more than 200 million people, where appropriate structures have put in place to create confidence in whatever you are doing with us.
He added that with a combined earning of N5.5 billion in the sector, which has contributed to our GDP, one of the objectives of the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) is to increase the global competitiveness of businesses in the country.
While giving assurance that the personal data of the Dutch citizens in Nigeria was safe, with regards to the establishment of the NDPR, Mr. Olatunji also requested for partnership in the area of reviewing and implementing data protection regulations and laws between both countries.
