The Nigerian Army has refuted circulating reports regarding the alleged death of its Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The reports gained traction after a tweet from Jackson Ude, a former presidential aide and social media commentator, claimed that the Army Chief had passed away in an overseas hospital following a battle with stage three cancer.

In response, the Nigerian Army swiftly dismissed the claim, labeling Ude’s tweet as ‘FAKE NEWS’ on the social media platform X. The military has consistently denied reports about any health issues concerning General Lagbaja.

Addressing the media on Saturday, Army spokesperson Major General Onyema Nwachukwu assured that there is no leadership crisis within the military. He clarified that General Lagbaja is on official leave and that Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim, Chief of Policy and Plans, has been designated to act in his stead during his absence.
