Award-winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, have lost one of their twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi, who died after a brief illness at the age of 21 months.
In a statement released on Thursday by her representative, Omawumi Ogbe, the family confirmed that the child passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, and described the loss as devastating.
The statement said the family has requested privacy during the period of mourning, adding that no further statements would be made as they grieve in private.

Chimamanda Adichie, who is 48, married Dr Esege in 2009, and the couple have three children, including a daughter born in 2016 and twin boys born in 2024, whose births she previously said she kept private to protect their family life.
