Nigerian Editors Call for Stronger Security, Responsible Media at 2025 Convention

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has called on the government to strengthen national security and urged journalists to uphold responsible and patriotic reporting.

The appeal followed its 2025 biennial convention held in Enugu, where discussions centred on the theme: ‘Nation’s Security Future: Harnessing Diversity for Peace/Stability and the Media’s Role.’

In a communiqué signed by NGE President Eze Anaba and Secretary Onuoha Ukeh, the Guild emphasised the importance of diversity, inclusion, and collaboration between media and security agencies in fostering peace.

The Guild also held elections, with Eze Anaba re-elected as President. It urged reforms in media law and called for better equipment for security forces and a Media Trust Fund for journalists.
