The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over unresolved issues affecting the health workforce, warning that a breakdown in negotiations could cripple the sector.
NMA President, Dr Bala Audu, said their demands are not new and have been approved in principle, including arrears linked to the consolidated medical salary structure and a promised review of longstanding collective bargaining agreements.

At the heart of the dispute is a controversial circular issued by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, which the NMA says was unilaterally released, ignored prior agreements, and cut allowances for senior consultants.
Despite some engagement with the Minister of State for Health, the NMA says the Health Ministry has yet to fully intervene.
Dr Audu warned that without urgent action, Nigeria risks a healthcare collapse, fuelled by workforce shortages, burnout, and the mass migration of medical professionals abroad.
