Petroleum marketers in Anambra State have issued a 21-working day notice to shut down operations over what they describe as persistent harassment and multiple taxation by various government agents.
The warning came during an emergency meeting of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, held in Awka on Wednesday. The group, led by the Chairman of IPMAN Enugu Depot Community, Chinedu Anyaso, accused local officials of violating an existing agreement with the state government pegging annual levies at ₦120,000.

Despite full compliance with the approved levy, members say they continue to face extortion, arrests, and conflicting demand notices from local government agents. The marketers also urged the Federal Government to settle outstanding bridge claims owed to members in Zube to help sustain their operations.
Reacting to the complaints, Chairman of the Anambra Internal Revenue Service, Greg Ezeilo, blamed the situation on overzealous local government chairmen seeking to assert autonomy. He assured that Governor Chukwuma Soludo remains committed to enhancing the Ease of Doing Business in the state and would not tolerate actions that undermine business activities.
