NNPC Signs $3.5 Billion Gas Deal with Akwa Ibom, GACN

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Akwa Ibom State Government, and the Gas Aggregator Company of Nigeria have signed a $3.5 billion Memorandum of Understanding to advance gas industrialisation in the South-South region. The agreement was signed on Monday at the opening session of the 2025 South-South Gas Utilisation Forum in Uyo.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, and representatives from Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers States. The forum aims to harness the region’s gas potential to drive economic growth and energy security.

NNPC’s Executive Vice Presidents Udy Ntia and Olalekan Ogunleye led the company’s delegation. Ntia, who also chairs the GACN Board, reaffirmed NNPC’s commitment to strategic partnerships that will boost industrial development and Nigeria’s energy transition goals.

The GACN Managing Director, Chijioke Uzoho, said the forum was convened to mobilise stakeholders towards holistic development through gas utilisation. Akwa Ibom State’s representative, Emem Bob, reiterated the region’s dedication to leveraging gas for sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
