NRS Denies Introduction of New Vehicle Tax

The Nigeria Revenue Service says the federal government has not introduced any new tax on vehicles, dismissing a viral message circulating online. The agency clarified that the claim, which suggests a new levy would take effect from July first, twenty twenty six, is false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the service said the widely shared infographic did not originate from any government institution. It noted that the material appeared designed to look official, using government insignia and directing vehicle owners to make payments through unspecified channels.

The agency also pointed out that the message referenced an incorrect government website and provided vague instructions for payment by private, commercial, and corporate vehicle owners. According to the service, these inconsistencies are clear indicators that the information is fabricated.

The Nigeria Revenue Service has advised the public to disregard the message and rely only on verified government communication channels for updates on tax policies. It also urged citizens to follow its official platforms to avoid falling victim to misinformation.
