The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, says the Office of the National Security Adviser has dismantled criminal cartels responsible for widespread sabotage of fibre-optic networks across the country.
This is according to the NCC’s Executive Vice-Chairman, Mr Aminu Maida, who was speaking at a business roundtable on broadband investment and infrastructure protection in Abuja.

Mr Maida described the attacks as a major threat to national security and economic growth, noting that between January and August 2025, the sector recorded more than 19,000 fibre cuts and over 3,000 theft cases. He said the damage has caused outages, revenue losses, and service disruptions nationwide.
The NCC is now enforcing stricter protection of critical telecom infrastructure and improving coordination with public works agencies. Maida added that new policies will expand broadband access, open up national fibre networks, and attract greater investment in digital connectivity.
