The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has issued operating licences to 28 newly registered private guard companies, urging them to play a greater role in intelligence gathering to support national security efforts.
The presentation ceremony, held at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja, formed part of its statutory mandate under the 2003 NSCDC Act, amended in 2007.
Speaking on behalf of Commandant General Prof. Ahmed Audi, Deputy CG Zakari Ningi called for prompt and timely intelligence sharing, describing security as a shared national responsibility.

Many of the new operators are ex-servicemen, praised for their potential to contribute valuable field expertise.
The Corps emphasised that the licences are not merely commercial documents but instruments of national security, with compliance set to influence future licence renewals.
A new Unified Training Curriculum was also launched to standardise industry practices nationwide.
