Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 polls, Mr. Peter Obi, has asked his supporters to vote for the African Democratic Congress in next week’s by-elections.
In a statement on X, Mr. Obi said the Labour Party has no candidates recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission due to an ongoing leadership crisis. The polls, scheduled for 16 August, cover 16 states, with two Senate, five House of Representatives, and nine state assembly seats up for grabs.

INEC excluded Labour Party candidates on 2nd August, triggering protests from the Julius Abure-led faction, while a rival group welcomed the move. The dispute has left the party split into parallel factions.
Mr. Obi, a member of the ADC-led coalition, described the polls as part of a continuing struggle for Nigeria’s political future.
