Ogun State has emerged champion of the 2025 Winifred Awosika Foundation Scrabble Tournament for Schools, with 10-year-old Adam Gbadebo securing an unbeaten run to clinch the title.
Representing Akingbogboade Nursery and Primary School, Master Gbadebo recorded five wins with a remarkable spread of +682. Chrisland School’s Yukusi Esther from FESTAC placed second with an equal number of wins but a lower spread of +258, while Ebube Maduegbuna of Chrisland, VGC, took third with +99.

Young Master Gbadebo credited his success to intensive training from his father and coach, noting his daily practice of two-letter word memorisation as a key strategy.
Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, praised the tournament as a vital platform for discovering young talent. He reaffirmed the state’s support, describing such events as investments in a more intellectually vibrant future.
