Osun FA Seeks Government Intervention Over Relegation Threat

The Osun State Football Association has appealed to the state government to intervene urgently as two publicly funded teams face possible relegation from their leagues. The call was made in a statement issued by the FA chairman, Sola Fanawopo.

Osun United, competing in the Nationwide League, is currently seventh in a 10-team Group B table, placing it close to the relegation zone. Osun Babes, in the Women’s Premier League, are also struggling after a series of poor results, leaving them just above the drop line.

The association says both teams must improve their performances in the remaining fixtures to avoid demotion, with sources indicating Osun United needs victories in its next three matches to remain in the league.

Fanawopo has called on the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, who oversees sports, to take direct action by assessing team conditions, improving welfare, and stabilising operations to safeguard the state’s football status.
