Former President of Sunshine Stars and Sunshine Queens, Akin Akinbobola, has blamed the relegation of both Ondo State clubs on persistent mismanagement and inadequate funding by the state government.
Speaking in Akure, Mr Akinbobola said the end of Sunshine Stars’ 22-year run in Nigeria’s top flight was inevitable, citing the absence of professional leadership and a lack of commitment to athletes’ welfare.

He criticised what he described as a culture of mediocrity, accusing officials of failing to uphold the standards that once made Sunshine Stars a competitive side since their promotion in 2003.
Mr Akinbobola warned that unless urgent reforms are made and sports development is prioritised, the state risks deeper decline in both football and other sporting disciplines.
