The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has criticised what it described as an attempt to prevent Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from resuming her duties following the end of her six-month suspension.
The party accused the Clerk of the National Assembly of acting under the influence of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the All Progressives Congress, APC, leadership.

In a statement by its publicity secretary, the PDP said the move undermines the rights of the people of Kogi Central and poses a threat to democratic principles. It further alleged that the APC-led Senate has been using institutions of state to weaken opposition voices.
The party also raised concerns about attempts to silence women in politics, citing past controversies involving the Senate President. It urged the Clerk to act with neutrality and called on the international community to condemn the development.
