The Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in Abia State, Dr Ezinwa Ezuruike, has called on the Civil Service Commission and relevant agencies to immediately resume the suspended recruitment of 771 health workers approved by Governor Alex Otti. He made the appeal during a live radio programme in Umuahia, describing the sudden halt of the exercise last week as unexpected.
Dr Ezuruike praised Governor Otti for approving the recruitment and for ongoing reconstruction of health facilities across the state. He stressed that the employment of more health workers is crucial to addressing the doctor-patient ratio in both urban and rural areas.

The NMA chairman also expressed concern that the new salary structure announced for health workers two months ago is yet to be implemented. He warned that without timely recruitment, competitive pay, and improved working conditions, many experienced professionals would continue to seek opportunities abroad.
Meanwhile, traders at Ariaria International Market in Aba have set up a 24-member ethics and quality control taskforce to prevent the sale of fake and substandard goods. Market Chairman Michael Aniorji said the team will work with NAFDAC and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria to screen food and drug products entering the market. He also raised concerns about a proposed remodelling project, stating that traders have yet to receive formal documentation from the contractor handling the job.
