Petrol prices at Lagos fuel depots have risen sharply, with the average ex-depot price climbing to around ₦1,200 per litre, as the market continues adjusting to Dangote Refinery’s shift to dollar-denominated sales.
A survey of major depots in Apapa found Pinnacle raising its price to ₦1,250 per litre, and Sobaz to ₦1,210, while Sahara and Ardova held at ₦1,150. Most retail filling stations, including NNPC outlets still selling around ₦1,153 per litre, had yet to adjust pump prices as of Thursday, though marketers expect widespread increases by Friday.
Several MRS filling stations, a key Dangote retail partner, were shut Thursday afternoon. PETROAN President Billy Gillis-Harry said marketers, who transact in naira, cannot be expected to source scarce dollars, warning that some may seek alternative suppliers. He urged NNPC to accelerate talks on reviving state-owned refineries to reduce reliance on private refiners.
PETROAN’s Joseph Obele called on the Central Bank and Petroleum Ministry to clarify currency policy for domestic fuel transactions to protect the naira and contain inflation.
