Police in Rivers State have arrested 13 suspected criminals following a raid on a known crime hotspot along the Olu-Obasanjo axis in Port Harcourt. The operation was carried out on Monday after a journalist, Allwell Ene, was assaulted while conducting an investigation in the area.
The Rivers State Police Command said the raid was triggered by the attack, which took place in a location previously identified for criminal activity. Police spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said officers launched coordinated operations across adjoining areas, leading to the arrests.
According to the police, the suspects are linked to offences including phone snatching and harassment of residents. Ene was reportedly attacked by suspected hoodlums while recording activities, before officers from the Olu-Obasanjo Division intervened to rescue him and restore order.
