The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says politicians and interest groups are planning campaigns of calumny aimed at undermining its anti-corruption efforts and the office of its chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said individuals with vested interests in ongoing investigations or prosecutions had recruited politicians, academics, civil society actors and Nigerian fugitives abroad to sponsor media attacks against the agency.
The EFCC said the alleged campaign was designed to portray the commission as politically biased and to intimidate it into abandoning investigations, particularly of opposition politicians, ahead of the 2027 general election. Oyewale said the commission was aware of the plans and warned that any attempt to distract it from its mandate was being closely monitored.

Reaffirming its non-partisan position, the EFCC said its investigations cut across party lines, with members of both the ruling and opposition parties currently under investigation or facing trial. It added that the commission remains committed to carrying out its duties without fear or favour.
