Parts of Abuja are experiencing power disruptions following an attack on the 330kV Lokoja–Gwagwalada transmission line 1 by suspected vandals. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that the incident affected three transmission towers, compromising power supply in the affected areas.
In a statement, TCN explained that attempts to restore power early on November 9 were unsuccessful due to damage on towers T306, T307, and T308, with further inspection revealing that vandals had stolen two spans of aluminium conductor from the line.
The company expressed concern over the rising trend of vandalism, which has become a severe challenge for Nigeria’s power infrastructure. These repeated attacks threaten the stability and expansion of the national grid, contributing to the recurring power outages.
TCN noted this incident adds to a year already plagued by 11 national grid collapses, affecting millions. It, however, did not specify which areas in Abuja are impacted by this latest disruption.
