Respect Zoning Formula in Choosing Next Party Chairman Says APC Vice-Chair Lukman

Mr. Salihu Lukman, Vice-Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), North-West, has called for due process in the election of the party’s next National Chairman.

Senator Abubakar Kyari, Deputy National Chairman (north), has occupied the position in acting capacity since the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Amongst the names said to be considered for the position is Mr. Abdullahi Ganduje, immediate-past governor of Kano – a claim that has been met with resentment in some quarters of the party.

In a statement on Sunday, Mr. Lukman said no member of the party should be allowed to entrench arbitrariness in the process of determining who becomes the next APC Chairman.

He directed his appeal to all those sponsoring the campaign to nominate former Governor Ganduje – particularly Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who doubles as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF).

Mr Lukman reminded his party members, including the President, of the APC’s agreed zoning formula which currently zones the position of their national chairman to the north-central.
