Pakistan’s security forces have dispersed supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Islamabad after a sweeping overnight crackdown. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Wednesday that roads linking the capital to the rest of the country had been reopened, bringing an end to a four-day lockdown.
The operation targeted protesters from Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, who had marched on Islamabad demanding the release of the former cricketer-turned-politician. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, a key Khan ally, alleged that hundreds of protesters were shot and thousands arrested. PTI also claimed eight people were killed during the crackdown, but the government has dismissed these allegations.

Police have denied using lethal force during Tuesday night’s operation, stating that nearly 1,000 protesters were detained. Authorities said the measures were necessary to restore order after days of unrest in the capital.
