At least seven people have been confirmed dead and sixteen others injured in a truck accident that occurred early Sunday morning in Essa community, along the Agaie-Badeggi Road in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State. The vehicle, which was carrying grains allocated by the Federal Government, also had 36 male passengers on board, reportedly travelling from Lagos to Kano.
According to the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba-Arah, the crash happened around 3:00 a.m. and was largely attributed to the poor condition of the Lambata-Bida road, especially sections that are yet to be reconstructed. Emergency responders, commuters, and local residents were involved in the rescue efforts.
