Several people are feared dead after a fuel-laden tanker exploded in the Dan Magaji area of Zaria, Kaduna State. The incident happened at about 8:30am on Monday near the Rochas Foundation School along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass.
According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the crash involved two fuel tankers and two passenger-filled Volkswagen Golf cars. Eyewitnesses reported hearing five loud explosions followed by a large fire that sent thick black smoke into the sky.

All occupants of the cars were reported to have died on the spot, except one driver who survived with severe burns. Emergency responders, security agencies, and fire service personnel cordoned off the area and warned motorists and pedestrians to avoid the route as operations continued.
The exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed, however recovery efforts are ongoing along the busy highway connecting Kaduna to Kano.
