Nigerian singer Shallipopi has announced plans to boycott future editions of The Headies, following an awkward moment at the 17th ceremony held in Lagos on Sunday.
The artist, who lost out to frequent collaborator Odumodublvck in the closely contested Next Rated category, appeared momentarily buoyed after his track ‘Cast’ was named Best Rap Single of the Year.

However, celebrations were short-lived. Upon reaching the stage, Shallipopi was met with only a handshake from the presenter, as organisers reportedly ran out of award plaques midway through the event.
The incident, widely circulated on social media, drew criticism from fans and observers alike. In a statement posted on his X account on Monday, Shallipopi described the experience as embarrassing and vowed to shun the prestigious Afrobeats awards in the future.
