The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on President Bola Tinubu to sign the sexual harassment prohibition bill for tertiary institutions into law.
The call is coming after the suspension of the dean of faculty of law at the University of Calabar, over sexual harassment allegations.
In a statement yesterday, Pedro Chibuzo Obi, President of the Association, said the President’s assent to the bill would put an end to what he labelled as the “pervasive practice in Tertiary institutions by randy lecturers.”

Obi noted that the recent protest by students of the University of Calabar should serve as a wake-up call for everyone.
He added that beyond sacking and demotion, culpable lecturers must be prosecuted in courts of law. He also added that this can only be achieved when the President gives assent to the Special Harassment in Tertiary Educational Institutions Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Bill.
