State Police Bill: Presidency reviews public submissions

The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill says it has started reviewing public submissions as drafting of the bill begins.

Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, who chairs the group, announced this on Thursday. He said memoranda and position papers from a nationwide public consultation are being analysed alongside the drafting process.

The bill will guide the creation of state police forces across Nigeria, a key security reform under President Tinubu.

Gbajabiamila said legal drafters from the Justice Ministry have begun the first drafting stage. A policy advisory committee, led by retired Justice Mohammed Liman, has also given initial policy direction.

The deadline for public submissions has been extended to today, August 21st at 5 p.m.
