Subsidy Removal: FG Resumes Talks With NLC, TUC

Yesterday, the Federal Government met with both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to deliberate the efforts being made to cushion the hardship associated with the removal of fuel subsidy.

Briefing State House correspondents after the meeting, the government and the Organised Labour said an agreement was reached to set up a steering committee that would receive reports from other sub-committees within eight weeks.

Recall the Organised Labour had on June 5 suspended its planned nationwide strike over the removal of subsidy following the agreement reached with the Federal government.

Present at the meeting are the delegation of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by its President, Mr. Joe Ajaero; a delegation of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), led by its President, Mr. Festus Osifo; the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila; Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, Mr. Zachaeus Adedeji; the Special Adviser to the President Energy, Miss. Olu Verheijen, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr. Kachallom Daju.
