The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has confirmed plans to increase telecommunications tariffs, although he clarified that the hike would not be as high as 100%.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr Tijani emphasised the need for robust regulations to support the sector’s sustainable growth.

The announcement comes amid mounting pressure from industry operators, who have called for tariff adjustments to address declining investments. On December 30, 2024, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria warned that services might be reduced if tariffs were not revised. Similarly, the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria has urged the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, to raise call tariffs by the first quarter of 2025.
Mr Tijani assured attendees that the NCC is currently consulting stakeholders and will announce the revised tariffs once the discussions are finalised.
