President Bola Tinubu says cooperation between Nigeria and the United Kingdom is essential in addressing terrorism in the Sahel region. He spoke on Wednesday at a state banquet held at St George’s Hall, Windsor Castle, during his official visit to the United Kingdom.
Mr Tinubu said Nigeria carries a responsibility to help stabilise West Africa, noting that the region faces complex security challenges linked to insurgency in the Sahel. He added that his meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer would further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The President also described Nigerians in the diaspora as a key link between both countries, highlighting shared democratic traditions and cultural ties. He said the visit aims to deepen relations built on mutual respect and common values.

According to the presidency, discussions with UK officials are expected to produce agreements covering trade, investment, defence and cultural cooperation, with senior security and intelligence officials among the Nigerian delegation accompanying the President.
