Two-Thirds of Nigerian Households Struggle to Afford Nutritious Meals Says NBS Survey

A new survey by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that two-thirds of Nigerian households cannot afford healthy and nutritious meals due to financial challenges. The survey, titled “Nigeria General Household Survey – Panel Wave 5 (2023/2024),” highlights the severe impact of multidimensional poverty and rising prices on the purchasing power of Nigerians.

The report indicates that 63.8% of households could only eat limited food types, while 62.4% expressed worry about running out of food. The findings also show a significant increase in food insecurity, with those concerned about insufficient food rising from 36.9% in the previous survey to 62.4%.
