Ukaki Makes English Football Debut in Blades’ Carabao Cup Exit

Nigerian forward Ehije Ukaki made his competitive debut for Sheffield United in a 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat at Birmingham City.

The 20-year-old, signed this summer from Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv, impressed in pre-season but had yet to feature in a competitive match. Manager Rubén Sellés made ten changes for the tie, handing him a first start.

Birmingham struck early through Kyogo Furuhashi after a defensive lapse. Ukaki twice threatened to level, missing from close range either side of half-time.

Gustavo Hamer produced a stunning 72nd-minute equaliser from the halfway line, but Jay Stansfield’s late finish sent the hosts through.

Nigeria international Bright Osayi-Samuel came off the bench for Birmingham in the 67th minute.
