Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has resigned as President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a sweeping cabinet reshuffle, the country’s fourth major government overhaul since Russia’s 2022 invasion.
Zelensky said the change was needed to implement an “updated political strategy,” assigning specific officials to key foreign policy relationships. He offered Svyrydenko a new role leading relations with an unnamed “key partner,” widely speculated to be an ambassadorial post in Washington.
Svyrydenko, 39, took office a year ago after negotiating a critical minerals agreement with the United States that helped ease tensions between Zelensky and President Trump. Under Ukrainian law, her resignation triggers the resignation of the entire cabinet, which stays on in a caretaker role until parliament approves a new government.
No successor has been formally named. Reported contenders include Naftogaz chief Serhiy Koretskyi, seen as the frontrunner, former Prime Minister and current Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
