Umahi Praises President Tinubu for Ending Marginalisation of South-East

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has commended President Bola Tinubu for breaking the long-standing marginalisation of the South-East Region in Nigeria’s political and infrastructural development. Umahi made the statement at a civic reception organised in his honour by the Okposi Okwu community in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State over the weekend.

In his remarks, the minister celebrated Tinubu’s efforts to ensure equitable distribution of resources, pointing to the significant improvements in infrastructure across the six geopolitical zones. Umahi said that his appointment as Minister of Works, a first in Nigeria’s post-independence history, symbolised a notable shift towards inclusion for the South-East.

Umahi also cited ongoing road infrastructural projects in the South-East as evidence of the president’s commitment to addressing historical imbalances. He urged the region to rally behind President Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections as a way of reciprocating the president’s goodwill.

The event was attended by prominent political figures, including Governors Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, Peter Mbah of Enugu, and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, as well as former Senate President Senator Pius Anyim, former Governors Martin Elechi and Olusegun Osoba, and APC National Vice Chairman for the South-East, Chief Emma Enukwu.
