United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has cautioned against any form of ethnic cleansing in Gaza, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s suggestion that Palestinians relocate elsewhere and the United States assume control of the embattled enclave.
Addressing a session of the U.N. Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Mr Guterres stressed the importance of seeking solutions that do not exacerbate the crisis. He underscored the need to uphold international law and reaffirm commitment to a two-state solution.

His spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, confirmed that the UN chief had spoken with Jordan’s King Abdullah about the situation. Meanwhile, Palestinian envoy Riyad Mansour informed the committee that King Abdullah would deliver a unified message from Arab states to President Trump during his forthcoming visit to Washington.
