Gaza Facing Severe Food Crisis as Wheat Deliveries Fall Short – UN

The UN’s humanitarian agency, OCHA, says only 5,600 tonnes of wheat flour entered Gaza between 19 May and this morning—well below the 8,000–10,000 tonnes needed to meet basic needs.

Much of the aid, according to OCHA, was seized en route by desperate civilians or armed groups before reaching designated warehouses.

The agency also reports a sharp drop in meal distribution, with just 258,000 meals served through 62 community kitchens as of 9 June—a 76% decline since late April.

Food prices continue to soar amid supply disruptions, with wheat flour reaching unprecedented levels.

Over 5,100 children were diagnosed with acute malnutrition in May alone.

OCHA further notes that more than 70% of Gaza’s fishing infrastructure has been destroyed, though some fishers continue working close to shore with non-motorised boats.

The agency warns of a deepening humanitarian emergency.
